Meaningful Vows Templates

Beng and I were selecting our vows last night. It is very meaningful.

Pastor Ed and Pastor David gave us a list of vows templates so that we can choose one and MEMORIZE it for our vows renewal ceremony. Our immediate thoughts were, “Wah Piang! So long!” Sensing our thoughts, Pastor Ed told us not to choose the shortest version, instead to choose something that is meaningful for both of us. We can cut and paste from the different templates given and make up our own and we do not need to use the same vows. The point is, it must be meaningful for both of us.

So, as we go through the list of vows last night, I was thinking how beautiful some phrases are and how applicable they are to our lives right now. I begin to think that this vows renewal ceremony is more meaningful than ever.

When we got married almost 10 years ago, we were looking at the Justice of Peace (JP) in his eyes/lips as we repeat our vows after him. Come to think of it, I think we vowed to take care of the JP for better or worse and not for each other! He must be very blessed since a lot of couples have vowed to take care of him!

I have decided! We must memorize our vows and recite our vows in front of each other, looking at each other in our eyes, not at our feet, not at Pastor Ed, nor at someone else!

But still….vows very long leh…. Pastor Ed, can discount or not?

Praise the Lord! I am bursting with joy because my prayers were answered! Well, maybe, it has simmered down a bit now but I was really bursting with joy yesterday.

Beng and I met up with Pastor David and Pastor Edward. They gave us a lot of ideas on how to make the ceremony memorable. They even asked how many people we intend to invite so that they can book a suitable room for us. This means that there is not going to be a cap on the number of guests that I want to invite anymore. Anyway, I don’t intend to invite much, probably only about 50 people. But, the last discussion was that the room is a little bit small, so the maximum number of people that it can accommodate is 25 people. I was a little disappointed at that time because our family, not including relatives, have already come up to almost 20. Anyway, the venue is not an issue now.

Pastor Edward and Pastor David have also assured us that the Prayer Rally is also not an issue too although our cell members have the right to decide if they want to attend the Prayer Rally or our vow renewal ceremony. Come on, everyone in SA846, I am sure that you love Beng and I, so you will attend our ceremony, right? ; )

Ok, the only thing that has not gone through as plan is to keep the ceremony a secret from Beng. My original thinking was to just trick him into coming to the ceremony and surprise him on that day. But it has to be revealed as because we need to be involved in the memorizing of the vows, meeting the pastors together to seek approval and the rehearsal before the big day etc.

However, he does not know about this blog yet. So all of you out there, DON’T tell him about this blog. This blog is my first present for him. Nobody opens their presents before the actual day, isn’t it? So you know what to do now? That is, don’t do anything to let him know about the existence of this blog!

Ok, invitation will be sent out later. I promise.

Wedding Anniversary Present for Beng

I went to Bugis to get a present for Beng during lunch today. Can't reveal it now in case Beng accidentally gets wind of this blog before the ceremony.

The present itself is inexpensive but meaningful and any married man would be happy to receive it.

Photography

I visited a bridal shop last night. It is newly opened and they have photography package starting from $138. This includes makeup, hairdo and 1 8R tabletop. I thought that this is a great idea since I do need makeup and hairdo on the actual day. A photo would be nice to commemorate our anniversary and to grumble about how old we are now reminisce about how youthful looking we were then.

I paid for the package without knowing if we are going through the ceremony at all. I guess, even if the ceremony does not go through as planned, we can always take some photos for remembrance.

Glory Of Your Grace

Yeah… I finally found the lyrics for “Glory of your Grace” last night – courtesy of http://sunnydalecell.blogspot.com/2008/06/glory-of-your-grace-pastor-peter-loy.html although I am still searching for the music on Youtube. I want this song to be sung during our wedding vows renewal ceremony. Very meaningful for wedding vows renewal ceremony. Part of the lyrics goes…. Come renew first love…. How appropriate! Although, what Ps Peter meant was to renew our first love for Jesus….

Here goes…

Glory Of Your Grace

Your grace still amazing
Like a beacon of light it shines my way
Lead me from glory to glory
Sufficient for all I need

Your grace extraordinary
Draws me to the depths of Your love
You will never let me go
This one truth I know
It’s by Your grace I live

Chorus:

I surrender my all
To the power of Your grace
Touch me, empower me
That I may live for You

Lord I give You my heart
Come renew first love
I choose to live, all my days
In the glory of Your grace

Prayer Rally 2008

Geez... just as I thought I have enough obstacles (such as a limit on my number of guests, not able to invite cell members because the ceremony is held on Friday, father-in-law went to A&E twice, logistics issue, not enough time to prepare etc), I have the shock of the day when the Church announced that there will be a prayer rally on 6 - 8 August. Imagine, the whole church will be busy, the pastors will be busy..... boo hoo.... it may not materialise after all.... This is really a tough mountain to climb.

At that time, I thought, "God, are you trying to tell me something?"

Anyway, I talked to Ps David today and expressed my concern. He said that he and Ps Ed will talk to us this Sunday. He sounded encouraging and wanted us to go through the ceremony.

Three weeks left, the venue and the number of guests have not being confirmed yet...... Somehow, I am still optimistic because I know that the Lord will carry me through.

Discussion with Ps David

I talked to Ps David last night. He is very nice. He gave a few suggestions in case our original plan does not work out. I was ok with all the suggestions, although the guest list has to cut down from 40 people to 25.

That is alright with me since I just want to have a small and quiet ceremony. Luckily, I have not sent out the invitation. Otherwise, it would be embarrassing to tell those invited guests not to come.

Zoe emailed me this morning and asked why I have not contacted her since I came back from Bangkok. Was bursting to tell her about the ceremony but held my tongue in case I disappoint her. She must come because she is the one who brought me to God.

Ok, I have to work on the guest list now.

On Leave Today

Took leave to run some errands with Beng today.

Met up with Ps David on Sat, 12 Jul for a get to know each other session. His intention is to get to know us better so that he can prepare a meaningful speech on the BIG day.

I explain to Beng that we will get Ps David to bless our marriage on our anniversary. So, he thought that it will be just the three of us. Hopefully, the surprise party will materialise. Otherwise, it will really be just the three of us.

I am having some obstacles. First, we might not be able to rent the summit. Second, since it is a Friday and cells are always held on Friday, we might not be able to invite our cell members....sigh....Third, it is so close to the BIG day now, I am afraid that by the time, our factors are favourable, I have no time to prepare.... sigh....

Anyway, I still have a backup plan... That is, to invite just the family and close friends and the ceremony will not be held in The Summit but the open space outside the church bookshop. Hopefully, it doesn't rain that day!

Wish I can share with someone my plan now....sigh.....

Ps David Chan's contact

Finally! I got Ps David's contact from Larry. Phew....

The most important person, after the couple, for a wedding vow renewal ceremony is really the Pastor, isn't it? The venue can be anywhere. There need not be guest. But you need a Pastor to bless the marriage and the union in the presence of God. Anyway, I have sent him an sms to ask if he is free to take my call. The details were vague. Something alone the line of ... "I need a favour from you." Hopefully, he doesn't think that I am trying to borrow money from him......ha!

Waiting for him to sms me back.....

A New Start

This blog is set up to document the process of our 10th wedding anniversary celebration and wedding vow renewal ceremony on 8 August 2008.

Beng a.k.a Andy and I have been married for almost 10 years. How time flies. This celebration is a surprise for him. Hopefully, he will only get to know about it on the day itself.

Invitation will be posted shortly.
